What is the curriculum at the IST Primary campus?
International School Twente (Primary) is part of the Prinseschool in Enschede, a member of the Consent group of Dutch schools in the Twente region, offering education to students aged 4-11. The school is an authorized IB World School delivering the Primary Years Programme.
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework for ages 4-11 which promotes lifelong learning and international mindedness through a programme of inquiry-based learning.
International School Twente is an authorized IB World School for the PYP. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
Learning through the PYP is accomplished through a Units of Inquiry, each organized around one of six themes:
- Who We Are
- Where We Are in Place and Time
- How We Express Ourselves
- How the World Works
- Sharing the Planet
- How We Organize Ourselves
Attention is given to planning these themes so that all subject areas are considered, and linked to the unit of Inquiry through a Central Idea. The inquiry is further guided through the use of Key Concepts.Throughout each unit learning, students are encouraged to reflect on their approaches to learning in order to make connections between subjects and transfer their skills. In this way, students learn to learn and become increasingly independent and self-guided learners.
