Parent Participation
Parent Council (PC)
The Parent Council is a representative body that serves as a sounding board and constructive sparring partner for the school leadership on daily
operations. They aim to meet with the principal approximately once every 4-5 weeks. Items on the agenda would include matters such as feedback on lessons and scheduling, homework quantities or organisation of test weeks, issuing of information about student progress to parents, Theme Evenings, community events, school trips and extracurricular activities.
The express purpose is to have representative parental engagement in the Parent Council by including at least one parent from every year at IST Secondary. The 2025-2026 Parent Council consists of
- Ms Serra Şemaki Çimşit – Year 8
- Mr Louis Parienté – Year 9
- Mr Ernst Tanaka – Years 9 and 12
- Mr Norman Kerle – Year 10
- Mr Franck Assayag – Year 10
- Ms Özlem Durmaz Incel – Year 11
- Mr Andrew Roos – Year 12
- Ms Miranda Sissons – Year 12
- Ms Tracy Craig – Year 13
The minutes of the meetings held with the Parent Council are shared whenever available via the IST’s internal newsletter.
The Parent Council should not be confused with the Participation Council, whose role is described on this page.
Parent Support Group (PSG)
The parent support group is an association of parents in close contact with our community coordinator.
To most of our families, The Netherlands and this region are new, which means that they will have to find their way around. The PSG helps to bridge the cultural, language and knowledge gaps that expat families face when arriving in a new place, and create a strong sense of community. Any newcomers to the Twente region who join IST will be pleased to know that any parent on the PSG would be very happy to help them get acquainted with their new environment and welcome them to the school.
Thanks to the involvement of our PSG parents, it is possible to organise all community events at both the Primary and Secondary locations. Examples include the start of the year barbecue, Halloween, Christmas and Easter celebrations, graduation ceremonies and the summer holidays goodbye party. They also help out with information evenings and during extracurricular events.
