IST Admissions Process

Thank you for your interest in IST. If you wish to enroll your child(ren) into our Primary and/or Secondary school, we kindly ask you to fill out the application form, after carefully reading the information below.

The International School Twente is a diverse school community. We understand that, as children of global families, our applicants may have to relocate at any time of the year. We therefore facilitate open enrollment all year round. Every student is special to us and deserves personal attention: phone or video calls and individual school tours help to ensure that all applicants are carefully and thoroughly guided through each step of the enrollment process.

The admissions process

We are always open for queries before we receive an application. A school visit, interview or spending a day at school is always possible after making the necessary arrangements.

Primary and Secondary
  • An application form is submitted. If a family is interested in more information before submission of the application form, we can be contacted by phone, email or through the submission of our contact form. In that case, IST will reply, providing general information about our school and curriculum, and outlining the following steps to take if interested in moving forward.
  • The admissions team will acknowledge receipt of the application, and request supporting documentation. At this stage, a family will be asked to provide:
    • Proof that that a student is eligible for admission to IST under IGBO/IGVO regulation and our admission criteria, such as passport copies or employer statements;
    • School report cards as issued in the preceding two years of schooling;
    • A reference letter from the school highlighting the following aspects:
      • Academic and personal traits
      • Relevant personal strengths and concerns
      • Socio-emotional well-being and if applicable, notification of any special needs (behaviour, learning difficulties)
      • Anything else the school believes is important for us to know about.
  • The family is then invited for a school tour or a video call with the admissions officer: this is an opportunity to ask detailed questions and receive more in-depth information and discuss mutual expectations.
  • The family is invited for a meeting with IST’s Primary or Secondary Principal. In this meeting, we discuss mutual expectations concerning academic standards, school culture and what the school promises to each member of the community.
Primary Secondary
  • No prior language testing is in place for admission to Primary
  • At this stage of the admission process, an English-language exam may be required to be able to process a student’s eligibility for admission into IST Secondary.
  • The student discusses with the Middle Years Coordinator or DP coordinator what subjects they can take at IST Secondary in the IGCSE or DP programme.
Primary and Secondary
  • A final check is carried out to ascertain that all supporting documents have been received and approved by the admission’s office, and that eligibility according to our Admission’s Policy has been verified. A copy of the student’s passport, a completed application form, copies of all records sent to the school and if applicable, other (medical) records will be kept on file to complete the enrollment.
  • Fees are collected via WisCollect. Enrollment is complete upon receipt of the (first installment of) the fees.
